La Grange Tiphaine – Touraine Ad Libitum

The biodynamically farmed 15 hectare estate is spread over the appellations of Montlouis-sur-Loire, Touraine and Touraine-Amboise, where old vines côt (malbec), cabernet franc, grolleau, chenin blanc and sauvignon blanc fully express their potential. In the winery, the work is very precise and measured, with micro cuvée vinifications and élevage in concrete vats and old casks. Indigenous yeasts are used for the fermentations, and the juices are transported by gravity, with gentle extractions and long macerations to follow. The use of sulphites is judicious and no other inputs, or interventionist techniques are used. The whites are neither racked nor stirred. Praised by wine critics and loved by wine enthusiasts, La Grange Tiphaine has positioned itself as an ”incontournable” (essential) estate to discover and to understand the wines of the Loire Valley.

Biodynamic. Blend of cabernet franc, côt (malbec), and gamay grown on clay/silex soils in Touraine Amboise. The harvest is manual and the grapes are meticulously sorted before being macerated and fermented in concrete tanks, separately, for 15 to 18 days. The different grape varieties are blended and then aged in concrete tanks for 4 months.

Densely packed aromas of bright, focused, fresh red berry, lovely earth poised between mushroom and forest floor, gentle baking spice, and floral notes. Medium bodied with a midpalate featuring mineral top notes and plenty of acid cut, the wine rides a swift current from fruit to stone to spice anchored by a firm but lissome texture. Beautiful persistent finish.

 Brooding black plum, earthy forest berries and tart cranberry jockey for position on the peppery palate, framed by long, silken tannins. There's a dusting of baking space on the snappy finish, along with a puff of warmth. Give this wine some breathing time to relax and open up.
