Located on a hilltop in the Greve, the heart of Chianti Classico, Verrazzano’s 220 acre estate includes 52 hectares of vineyards at altitudes between 280 and 400 meters above sea level, higher than average Chianti Classico vineyards. All the vineyards are in the vicinity of each others, forming one block fanning out from the forest limits down to the valley below, surrounding the castle. Though present in southern parts of the Classico area, limestone is unique to Verrazzano which is in the cooler, northern part of the zone. This singular combination of limestone soil and cooler growing conditions accounts for the wines’ muscularity and finesse. The estate is owned by the Cappellini family.

Organic. 95% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo. 14% - Hand harvested. Indigenous yeasts. Vinified in stainless steel tanks. Aged 18 months in large French oak barrels.

Hints of roasted chestnut, cinnamon and forest roots swirl around dark red cherry. Both full and firm, assertive dusty tannins shore up the palate, which exhibits its signature austerity. Stony minerals, tobacco and bitter orange lurk in the background, while zesty acidity lends a mouthwatering finish.

Made with organically grown grapes, this delicious red has aromas suggesting underbrush, blue flower, eucalyptus and mature black-skinned fruit. The smooth, chewy palate shows ripe Marasca cherry, black plum licorice and hazelnut. Taut, fine-grained tannins provide the framework and generate a rather drying finish.
