Castello di Verrazzano wine range

Located in the hills of Greve in Chianti, Castello di Verrazzano is one of Tuscany’s most historic wine estates. Famously linked to Giovanni da Verrazzano, the Florentine explorer who became the first European to enter New York Harbor in 1524, the estate combines centuries of heritage with organic farming and classic Chianti Classico winemaking.

The Estate

The estate is famously linked to Giovanni da Verrazzano, the Florentine explorer who became the first European to enter New York Harbor in 1524. Today, the Cappellini family continues the castle’s long agricultural tradition, producing wines that reflect the history, landscape and culture of Chianti Classico.

Vineyards and Terroir

The vineyards cover 52 hectares at elevations ranging from 260 to 420 metres above sea level. Limestone-rich soils, combined with clay and rocky subsoils, provide excellent drainage and promote deep root systems. Sangiovese forms the foundation of the estate’s wines, supported by traditional Tuscan varieties and selected international grapes.

Winemaking

Organic farming practices guide vineyard management throughout the estate. Grapes are harvested by hand and vinified with a focus on preserving varietal character and site expression. Ageing takes place primarily in large oak casks, allowing the wines to develop complexity while maintaining freshness and balance.

Wine Style

The wines combine the structure and freshness typical of Chianti Classico with the elegance of high-altitude vineyards. Bright red fruit, savoury herbs and fine tannins define the reds, while the top selections offer additional depth, complexity and ageing potential. Across the range, the wines remain firmly rooted in Tuscan tradition.
