Château du Moulin-à-Vent: A Historic Estate in Beaujolais

Nestled in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation of Beaujolais, Château du Moulin-à-Vent is a historic estate dating back to 1732. The château takes its name from the iconic 15th-century windmill that overlooks the vineyard. Since acquiring the estate in 2009, the Parinet family has revitalized the château’s legacy, focusing on producing exceptional Gamay wines that reflect the unique terroir of Beaujolais. The estate is known for its structured and age-worthy wines, crafted from the best parcels of this prestigious cru.

Terroir and Vineyards

Château du Moulin-à-Vent spans 37 hectares, with vines planted in some of the finest parcels in the region, such as La Rochelle, Les Thorins, and Aux Caves. The vineyards are located on gentle slopes with granite and manganese-rich soils, which contribute to the minerality and depth of the wines. The altitude, ranging from 240 to 280 meters, coupled with the southeastern exposure, provides excellent ripening conditions, resulting in wines that are both powerful and elegant .

Organic and Traditional Winemaking

The estate follows organic vineyard practices, ensuring that the natural biodiversity and soil health are maintained. The grapes are hand-harvested, and the wines are vinified using a combination of traditional and modern techniques. A portion of the wines is aged in French oak barrels, adding complexity and structure without overwhelming the natural fruit flavors. The focus on terroir-driven winemaking allows each wine to express the unique characteristics of its vineyard site .
