Provence Sainte Victoire Rouge
The Mas de Cadenet estate is located at the base of the Sainte Victoire mountain (the mountain that French artist Cézanne made famous
through his paintings), in the heart of Provence. It is a family estate and has been owned and run by the Négrel family for seven generations. The domaine is composed of 45 hectares of vines planted 250 meters above sea level, with a southern exposure. 40 hectares are classified in AOC Sainte-Victoire, and 5 hectares are planted in AOC Côtes de Provence. The name Mas means Estate in Provençal (the local dialect), and Cadenet comes from cade, a shrub of the Juniper family.
Certified Organic. Blend of 70% Syrah, 30% Grenache. 45 year old average vines. Hand Harvested. Natural yeast. Aged 8 months in used French oak barrels. Well-drained vineyards on a South facing plateau, 250 meters above sea level. Clay and limestone soils from the secondary Cretaceous and Jurassic. The top soil is composed of cobbles washed down from the Sainte Victoire Mountain. Mediterranean climate with abundant sunshine and a lot of wind (Mistral).
Spicy nose. Rich violet red. Intense nose of stewed black fruit, dry herbs, spices, and gamey flavors. Beautifully balanced and structured. Long finish and persistent.
