Tardieu Laurent - Vacqueyras Vieilles Vignes
Tardieu Laurent is one of the most acclaimed artisan-négociants throughout the Rhône Valley, and shares a lot of similarities with Mounir Saouma from Burgundy Lucien Le Moine. The Tardieu Family has secured long-term, hand-shake deals with vignerons who carefully guard the prime location of their 50- to 100-plus-year-old vines. They follow very closely all the stages from organic viticulture to winemaking. They also hand-pick the barrels they deliver to the growers for the first 8 to 12 months and then move them back to the Tardieu’s cellar in Lourmarin to polish the ageing up to 18-24 months.
Vacqueyras is located at the foot of the majestic Dentelles de Montmirail, near the town of Orange. Its terroir benefits from a Mediterranean climate and limestone clay soils, marl, sandstone limestone and rolled pebbles.
Organic - 70% Grenache (over 60 years old), 10% Syrah (40 years old), 20% Mourvèdre (40 years old) from the lieu-dits of Sarrians Plateau, La Ponche, Les Grès and Les Pendants. 10 months in one- and two-year-old barrels, then another 10 months in foudres (Tronçais and Allier). No fining, no filtration.
''Spicy plum compote, anise and black pepper introduce this deep, velvety red. A blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, it offers deeply concentrated blackberry and cassis flavors shaded by earthier tones of granite, moss and dried thyme.
