Tardieu Laurent - Hermitage
Tardieu Laurent is one of the most acclaimed artisan-négociants throughout the Rhône Valley, and shares a lot of similarities with Mounir Saouma from Burgundy Lucien Le Moine. The Tardieu Family has secured long-term, hand-shake deals with vignerons who carefully guard the prime location of their 50- to 100-plus-year-old vines. They follow very closely all the stages from organic viticulture to winemaking. They also hand-pick the barrels they deliver to the growers for the first 8 to 12 months and then move them back to the Tardieu’s cellar in Lourmarin to polish the ageing up to 18-24 months.
Saint Péray is the southernmost appellation in Northern Rhône. It is also one of the smallest AOCs along with Château Grillet (white - viognier). Only white wines are produced there with about 10 - 15% as Méthode Champenoise sparkling. The vine growing area is strongly influenced by winds coming from the hills of the Massif Central to the North and the imposing limestone outcrop of the Montagne de Crussol overlooking the village.
Organic - 100% syrah serine. 12 months in new and one old barrels. Then 12 months in foudre. Allier-Tronçais-Jupille No fining, no filtration.
Rocky tones of granite and earth are lifted by a hint of violet florals in this sleek, stately Hermitage. It's a gorgeous, linear wine in youth but offers beautifully concentrated blackberry and cassis flavors edged by firm, penetrating tannins
