Tardieu Laurent – Cotes du Rhône Villages Rouge Becs Fins

Tardieu Laurent is one of the most acclaimed artisan-négociants throughout the Rhône Valley, and shares a lot of similarities with Mounir Saouma from Burgundy Lucien Le Moine. The Tardieu Family has secured long-term, hand-shake deals with vignerons who carefully guard the prime location of their 50- to 100-plus-year-old vines. They follow very closely all the stages from organic viticulture to winemaking. They also hand-pick the barrels they deliver to the growers for the first 8 to 12 months and then move them back to the Tardieu’s cellar in Lourmarin to polish the ageing up to 18-24 months.

Sourced from vineyards that range from Lirac, Roaix, Visan as well as a few others with the focus on rolled pebbles for the soil. Composed of 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache, it is one of those rare Syrah dominant blends from the southern Rhone. All grapes are destemmed, elevage takes place in concrete tanks and the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.

 The 2019 Cotes Du Rhone Les Becs Fins is an expressive, complex, outstanding wine from this estate. Black raspberries, saddle leather, peppery garrigue, and sandalwood emerge from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, balanced 2019 that has silky tannins and loads of character. It too is ideal for enjoying over the coming 5-6 years.
