Nuits Saint Georges
Regarded as one of the rising stars of Burgundy, Domaine Duband has been recognized recently by La Revue du Vin de France (one of France’s leading wine guides), when they awarded the Domaine their coveted 3 stars, along with other super stars like DRC, Leroy and Georges Roumier. Certified organic since 2010, the 17 hectare estate produces 23 different appellations from Nuits St Georges to Gevrey Chambertin.
100% pinot noir. Forty years old average vines coming from the lieux-dit Les Herbues. The clay and limestone terroir faces east. Hand harvested. 80% whole cluster. Two week long maceration in stainless steel tanks. Aged 14 months in new oak barrels (40%) and used oak barrels (60%). No fining, no filtration.
There is plenty of sauvage character to the overtly earthy aromas of red and dark currant, autumn leaves and subtle floral nuances. There is fine size, weight and mid-palate density to the medium-bodied flavors that possess plenty of dry extract that does a very good job of buffering the moderately firm tannins shaping the impressively complex and persistent, if rustic, finale. Fine quality here.
