Usiglian del Vescovo logo Usiglian del Vescovo wine range

Located in the hills of Pisa, Usiglian del Vescovo combines nearly a thousand years of history with a modern commitment to organic viticulture and terroir-driven winemaking. The estate produces elegant Tuscan wines that balance Mediterranean richness with freshness, structure and authenticity.

The Estate

The origins of Usiglian del Vescovo date back to the 11th century when the property belonged to the Bishops of Lucca. Over centuries, the estate became an important agricultural and winegrowing centre in western Tuscany. Today, it remains one of the leading estates of the Terre di Pisa area, combining historic heritage with a forward-looking vision focused on quality and sustainability.

Vineyards and Terroir

The estate farms approximately 25 hectares of organically certified vineyards situated at around 200 metres above sea level. Clay and sandy soils provide excellent drainage while retaining sufficient moisture during the warm growing season. Influenced by the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea, the vineyards benefit from cooling breezes that preserve freshness and aromatic complexity. Sangiovese forms the backbone of the estate, alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot.

Winemaking

Organic farming has been practiced since 2001, with a strong emphasis on biodiversity and environmental stewardship. In the cellar, winemaking follows a philosophy of minimal intervention, allowing vineyard character to remain at the forefront. Fermentation and ageing are tailored to each wine, combining stainless steel and French oak to achieve balance, texture and elegance without masking varietal expression.

Wine Style

The wines combine Tuscan warmth with freshness and precision. Sangiovese-based wines deliver bright red fruit, spice and refined tannins, while international varieties contribute depth and structure. Across the range, the wines are defined by balance, purity and a clear sense of place.
