Barbaresco Pelissero

Pelissero: A Tradition Rooted in the Heart of Piedmont

Founded in 1960 in the Barbaresco region of Piedmont, Italy, Pelissero Winery has been a family-run estate for three generations, dedicated to producing some of the finest wines in the area. Located in Treiso, one of the four key communes for producing Barbaresco, Pelissero’s 42 hectares (104 acres) of vineyards are predominantly planted with Nebbiolo, the grape that defines the Barbaresco DOCG. Other traditional Piedmontese varieties such as Barbera and Dolcetto also thrive here, benefiting from the region’s unique terroir.

Terroir and Geology of Pelissero Vineyards

The vineyards of Pelissero are located in the Langhe hills, a region recognized for its rich geological diversity. The soil composition in Pelissero’s key vineyards, such as Vanotu, Tulin, and Piani, features a mixture of limestone, clay, and sand, which creates ideal growing conditions for Nebbiolo. The limestone-rich soils of Vanotu are especially important for developing the signature aromas and strong varietal character of Pelissero’s flagship Barbaresco Vanotu.

The estate’s vineyards span altitudes between 250 and 400 meters, with different aspects and microclimates that allow the cultivation of Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto, each suited to specific soil types and slopes. For example, the Tulin vineyard, with its mineral-rich soil and steep slopes, produces structured and tannic wines that evolve beautifully with age.

Commitment to Tradition and Innovation

Pelissero’s philosophy is rooted in the traditional farming practices of the Langhe region, yet the family also embraces modern viticultural techniques to continually improve quality. All grapes are estate-grown, ensuring complete control over the entire production process. In total, Pelissero produces around 250,000 bottles annually, exporting their wines to over 60 countries.

The winery’s portfolio is anchored by its Barbaresco wines, crafted from select vineyard parcels and aged in a combination of French oak barriques and large casks to balance structure and elegance. In addition to Barbaresco, the estate produces Langhe Nebbiolo, Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, and even Riesling, reflecting the diversity of the region’s terroir.
